Present

The windmill has been deteriorating since the mid 1990's and now needs to be comprehensively repaired. The mill has continued to decay even since being added to English Heritage's "Buildings at risk" register in 2002. Some specific issues are outlined below:

Mill body

The deteriorating weatherboarding has resulted in water leaking into the mill. The whole body has been shrouded in scaffolding for the past five years.

Sails

The sail frames were removed in 1999, leaving just the stocks. The steel stocks were crudely cut-off in 2004, leaving part of the middlings in the canister of the windshaft.

Roundhouse

The roundhouse walls need repairing and the floor is very weak. The roundhouse roof boards are starting to split.

The crowntree and side girts are decaying due to wet rot. The joints between the crosstrees and quarterbars are also suffering from decay.
