Future

Our long-term plan is to support the Argos Hill Windmill Trust in restoring the Windmill to full working order. This ambitious plan will be split into the following phases:

Argos Hill Windmill
Phase 1 - Make building safe - by providing structural support to the windmill, and by propping up the steps and tailpole

Phase 2 - Make waterproof and structurally sound - including repairs to trestle, framework, roundhouse, re-weatherboarding and re-painting

Phase 3 - Renew tailpole, steps and fantail - to static condition

Phase 4 - Install sails that are capable of free-wheeling - complete with some shutters and striking gear

Phase 5 - Return to full working order - by repairing all machinery and re-instating the full turning circle

All work will be carried out in accordance with the "Philosophy of Mill Repair" as laid out by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. It is hoped that phases 1 to 4 can be completed within the next five years. Restoration to full working order (phase 5) is a longer-term aspiration.
